6.5×13 Tri-Tone Walnut, Vertical Grain

Tri-Tone Walnut, vertical grain

This punchy 6.5×13 has a lot of bite and body. It has a Tri-Tone Walnut shell with standard Orybon edging and snare bed giving it our sought-after, signature sound. It is equipped with black nickel hardware, including a Trick 3-position throwoff. The Road Veteran finish consists of a beautiful vertical grain walnut veneer with satin lacquer.

Ory’s thoughts on the sound:

“This 6.5x 13 falls right in-line with our other Tri-Tone 6.5x13s. I often talk about this size keeping in mind that a typical, shallow 13 tends to be too aggressive in most music. Good for hip hop, but not so much for pop. Our 6.5 depth allows the drum to not be as compressed and open up a bit giving you to get a nice tight, yet warm, thick back beat that I have used in virtually every style music with various tunings. The cross stick is insane on this size.”

6.5×10 Tri-Tone Walnut, Bubinga

Tri-Tone Walnut, bubinga

This is a rack-mounted 6.5×10 Tri-Tone Walnut snare with standard Orybon edging and snare beds giving it our sought-after, signature sound. It is equipped with black nickel hardware, including a Trick 3-position throwoff. The Studio Master finish consists of an amazing bubinga kevazinga veneer with gloss lacquer.

Ory’s thoughts on the sound:

“WOW!… I have played many 10s in my day and this one rules them all. Some 10-inch snares I’ve played with 10 plies plus 6-ply hoops are cool drums, but just flat tear your head off — only super-high-octane punch is possible with those. Others with 10 or 8 plies and no rings just don’t really seem to have the juice by the time they get tuned-up into the snare/timbale range — they  just choke-out… Now enter the 10″ Orybon with Tri- Tone shell… again — WOW! When you rip into it hard with an off-center rim shot it is the coolest Latin/ reggae accent drum I have ever heard. Lay it right up the center and it is a fat full-body, hip-hop rocket. This drum can hold its own as a primary drum under the right circumstances.  It is definitely no novelty. But be warned: This drum is not for the faint of heart.”

6.75×14 “Fat Boy” Craviotto Solid-Shell SOLD

Fat Boy Craviotto, olive ash burl

The 6.75×14 Orybon “Fat Boy” Craviotto snare is truly special. This one-of-a-kind, prototype instrument is built upon a Craviotto solid maple shell, and is finished with ultra-fat edges and modified Orybon snare beds to give it an extremely old-school, lo-fi flavor. Desigend for drummers looking for that classic “Radio King” type of sound, but with a little modern edge thrown in. The tuning range in this drum is pretty incredible too, this snare cranks up well and offers a lot of amazing acoustic possibilites. This is a truly special, one-of-a-kind collector’s piece. It is equipped with black nickel hardware, including a Trick 3-position throwoff. The dark hardware sets off the incredible figuring in the olive ash burl, and the whole thing is wrapped in a luxurious gloss lacquer.

Ory’s thoughts on the sound:

“The Fat Boy has a much wider outside counter-cut for the edges and the snare bed is a bit deeper and  graduated out further from center than usual. It’s a live snare bed, but still manageable. I didn’t want this drum to be a one-trick pony. I used the same edge on top and bottom on this drum because I wanted it to be fat and wet and alive… it worked! I believe with various different heads this drum will have a very special tuning range fit for blues and big band guys. This one, with its unique size and Craviotto shell, is something that you will have to pry out of some drummer’s cold, dead hands. It sounds insane tuned up tight and when I turned it down flappy and threw a wallet on it, the tone was like the best old 70’s wallet-on-the-head sound I’ve ever heard!”
